Did you know that during walking, the fibula (the long narrow bone on the outside of the lower leg) can actually shorten up to 1.5 inches with every step? Walking is perhaps the most fundamental movement humans perform. However, the act of walking is far more complicated than putting one foot in front of the other. When done incorrectly, over time, walking can lead to chronic pain and structural imbalance. Yet when done correctly, it can be both freeing and transformative. This three hour, two part workshop explores how we can transform our walking experience to be pain free and dynamic.
In this workshop we will explore the following key concepts:
The spine as an undulating, spiraling string of pearls
Freeing the head in response to spinal undulation
How suppleness in the feet encourages a supple spine
The enormous range of motion our hip bones can express when we activate their full potential
Propulsion from the back of the foot with full-body follow through
Organic movement within in the trunk to nourish and keep our organs supple
Cultivating an understanding of how the above actions lead to less pain and more ease of movement
